The State University of New York at Old Westbury, or SUNY College at Old Westbury, as it is also called, is a university college that is part of the State University of New York system, located in Old Westbury, which is a village in Nassau County, in the US state of New York, on the North Shore of Long Island, with a small population of over 4000 inhabitants, as estimated during the 2000 census.
The university was established in 1965 and was founded by the State University of New York Board of Trustees. It first opened its doors to students in 1968, at Planting Fields, the former Coe Estate and arboretum in Oyster Bay, NY, being moved to its present location in 1971. It currently offers its students the chance to choose from over 40 degrees, having the goal `to prepare students to achieve their potential and to create the career - and life - they imagine.`
The athletic teams from SUNY College at Old Westbury are known as the Panthers and they compete in NCAA Division III, in the Skyline and East Coast Athletic Conferences, with 10 sports teams. Their distinctive colors are green and ivory.
